  1. Post update

    Djokovic 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 6-4 3-1 Edmund*

Novak Djokovic moves closer to the finish line by holding his serve. And tries to psyche himself up by screaming and shouting. Don’t know who he’s shouting at as there’s pretty much no-one here.

This is tennis in these times. How we need crowds back in the venues. Hopefully there will be some fans allowed at the French Open later this month.

  2. Norrie off to flying start

    *Norrie 4-0 Coria

Kyle Edmund is not the only Brit in singles action at the moment as Cameron Norrie is on court five.

And he’s made a flying start!

Norrie, who knocked out ninth seed Diego Schwartzman in the first round in a thrilling five-setter, is already a double break up against another Argentine, Federico Coria.

  3. Post update

    *Djokovic 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 6-4 2-1 Edmund

Edmund was at 15-30 behind on his own serve in the third game of the fourth set but manages to save himself after a few rounds of deuce.

Djokovic is 2-1 up in sets and in this fourth set with a break, but the perfectionist in him is still furious at his current performance.

  4. Pliskova loses first set

    Pliskova 1-6 0-1 Garcia*

Top seed Karolina Pliskova has a lot of work to do.

Not only has she now lost the first set to France’s Caroline Garcia, she’s also down a break in the second.

If she needs some inspiration, she needs to read about this incredible comeback by Varava Gracheva earlier today!

  5. Post update

    Djokovic 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 6-4 2-0 Edmund*

Novak Djokovic consolidates that break of serve, in a pretty routine fashion. The temperature is 80 degrees, the humidity is at 80% and Edmund is wilting.

These are tough, tough conditions, not made easier when you have the world’s best player on the other side of the net.

There seems to be no way back from here for Edmund. Djokovic wants to wrap this one up as soon as he can after almost three hours on court.

  6. Post update

    *Djokovic 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 6-4 1-0 Edmund

    Naomi Broady

British player on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

This is when it’s a shame they don’t have a crowd as they don’t get the praise they deserve for some of these shots!

  7. Djokovic breaks

    *Djokovic 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 6-4 1-0 Edmund

That could be that. Djokovic shouts out as Edmund’s sweeping forehand hits the middle of the net.

That’s a break of serve in the opening game of set four. If Djokovic holds his serve from now on he will be in the third round and playing 28th seed Jan-Lennard Struff.

  8. Post update

    Djokovic 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 6-4 0-0 Edmund

Edmund, under pressure, goes long and then a winning forehand on the run from Djokovic. That’s a third break point that he will have to defend. Advantage Djokovic.

  9. Post update

    Djokovic 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 6-4 0-0 Edmund*

Djokovic aims for a cross-court winner on the forehand side to take the break, but overcooks it and wide it goes. Edmund has saved two break points in the opening game of the fourth set.

  10. Post update

    Djokovic 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 6-4 0-0 Edmund*

A two-handed backhand down the line from Djokovic zooms away and is a work of beauty from the top seed.

That helps bring about a couple of break points. This could be the beginning of the end for Edmund if he loses one of the next two points. 15-40.

  11. Women’s top seed in trouble?

    *Pliskova 0-5 Garcia

Over on Louis Armstrong court, could there be an upset brewing?

Czech top seed Karolina Pliskova has made a terrible start against Caroline Garcia, losing the opening five games. The Frenchwoman is a former world number four so it’s a pretty tricky second-round draw for Pliskova.

  12. Post update

    Djokovic 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 6-4 0-0 Edmund*

  13. Game and third set – Djokovic

    Djokovic 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 6-4 Edmund

One of the strangest sets you will see with both players seeing a massive drop in their performance.

Djokovic’s serve had been so impressive in the opening two sets, but he had just had his serve broken in both the past two games.

This time he sweeps through it with a service hold to love to take the third set and a two sets to one lead.

  14. Stephen McCormack: Edmund can’t complain about meeting Djokovic early in the competition. If he wants to avoid him, he needs to improve his ranking! Can’t keep having big lulls without wins.

Emperor: Edmund doesn’t seem to have the mental capability against top seeds especially on the big stages

  15. Goffin wins

    Harris 6-7 (6-8) 6-4 1-6 4-6 Goffin

Seventh seed David Goffin has claimed his place in the third round. He’s just beaten South Africa’s Lloyd Harris in four sets.

That means Britain’s Cameron Norrie will be out on court five soon.

  16. Post update

    Djokovic 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 5-4 Edmund*

An ace out wide from Edmund means Djokovic will have to serve out the set.

A moment of frustration from Djokovic as he tries to boot a bouncing tennis ball only to completely miss it. That’s why he’s at the Arthur Ashe Stadium and not the Nou Camp.

  17. Post update

    Djokovic 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 5-3 Edmund*

    David Law

BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra tennis commentator

The players look almost embarrassed by their own tennis at the moment.

  18. ‘It’s annoying that Edmund had this draw’

    Djokovic 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 5-3 Edmund*

    Naomi Broady

British player on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

I think Edmund has shown such impressive tennis and such a high level that I almost feel annoyed he had this draw. If he’d have produced this level with other players he would have got pretty far through the tournament.

  19. Edmund breaks back

    Djokovic 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 5-3 Edmund*

No-one wants to keep hold of their serve. For the fourth game in a row we have a service game broken.

Djokovic is having moments of brilliance, moments of dropping to Edmund’s current inconsistent level.

Are the conditions draining all the energy from both men? It’s all a bit flat at the moment, normally the crowd would be lifting the action. No fans there this year though.

  20. Danny Morgan: Kyle has all the weapons to be a top 20 player, but he is mentally weak. As soon as a match starts getting away from him, he rarely recovers.
